Meet Mr. Comment!

Along with re-activating this blog, I have been spending some significant commenting time over at the blog of Bill Lobdel.

I would encourage you all to visit there, and let me know what you think of both the posts, and my responses.

Bill is a former LA times writer and Christian, who has recently (the last 3 years) renounced his faith, and is now espousing atheism. He has even written a book about his journey to non-faith. For whatever reason, I have a heartfelt burden for Mr. Lobdell, and ache for the day when he turns back toward the Light. I think it will happen, but not without a monumental struggle - both here and in the heavenlies.

My prayer is that my words could be chipping at the bricks of the stronghold he is currently within.

Your prayers would be much appreciated.

This is an excellent article about Sarah Palin.

My wife and I were/are big fans of her - much to the chagrin of most of my College colleagues - and have joked that we should have cut the top half off of our McCain/Palin bumper sticker.

But, the visceral loathing of her by so many was disconcerting, to say the least! There is still a part of me that feels like some of you now see me as fitting the profile of a Jeff Foxworthy joke punchline.

A New Look for Defiant Lamb!

As part of my attempt to resurrect this blog, I decided to give it a new look.

What you see at the top is a photo of my boys from this past Summer. We are at Little Corona beach in So. Cal. We live about 30 minutes from here, and of course hardly ever make it to the beach. We live about 45 minutes from the mountains, and hardly ever make it to the snow.

We live within 30 to 45 minutes of just about anything you could imagine wanting to do, and hardly ever do any of them.

What do we do?

Life.

Which, it turns out, is everything in between the big stuff.

Now, which are we missing out on: all these enriching activities right out our front door, or taking the time to learn the names of every Transformer from a 4 year old while we wonder why we aren't doing all those activities.

You know what I mean?

For the Start of a New Semester

I teach at a Community College, and today is the start of our Spring semester.

Woo Whoo!

I really like my job, and see it as one of the more undeserved gifts from God in my life.

I was sitting in my office this morning, and readying myself for the day, and decided some devotional reading and prayer might be a good way to start (what a concept!), so I turned to a book I picked up cheap that is a yearly devotional on the gospel of Matthew. Today's reading is from Joseph Parker, and the last paragraph strikes me as perfect for me, for today.

What in interesting coincidence, isn't it?
Hmmmm...

Here's the quote - I think the words could be taken to heart by us all (emphasis mine):

Have you been prepared for your work? If so, why are you not doing it? We have been trained in music, yet we do little but mumble in the vocal worship of Almighty God. We have read many books, yet are silent as the grave. We have passed through many temptations, but the word of sympathy never falls from our lips. We have proved the vanity of the world, yet we never tell the young that the world is a gigantic lie and life but an empty wind apart from God and the infinite Savior. Our Lord, having been qualified for His work went to it. Arise, let us do the same.

My Apologies to Bob Bennett

This post probably won't be read by anyone for quite some time, if at all, but I need to get back to writing here, and this seems the best way to start.

As you can see by the posts, I haven't REALLY posted in about two years. The reasons are many, and not worth going into right now.

Anyways, I decided to google "defiant lamb" and see if I could find a reference to this blog. The name of the blog is from a song by Bob Bennett, my all-time favorite singer/songwriter. Imagine my surprise when this blog came up as the TOP listing!

Not that too many people are googling for the phrase "defiant lamb", but still...TOP listing!

The thing is, now I feel an obligation to the name - to live up to top listing status.
